In this two part episode we speak with Dr. Carla Peck, Professor of Social Studies Education in the Department of Elementary Education at the University of Alberta, about her concerns regarding the social studies and history components of Alberta’s draft curriculum. In this, part 1, we discuss the overall direction of the new draft curriculum for social studies and history. In part 2 to be released in coming weeks we discuss examples of the specific problems with the content in the social studies and history curriculum and how academics are speaking out.
