In this episode we continue our conversation with Dr. Dougal Macdonald, Assistant Professor from the Faculty of Education at the University of Alberta, about changes to math curricula in Ontario and Alberta. In this segment we discuss the development of modern teaching methods in math and science education in the context of governments claiming there is a need to go “back-to-basics” in opposition to what they call “discovery” math. In this episode Dr. Macdonald defines the terms “discovery” as well as “inquiry-based teaching” and explains their historical development.
