Episode 3 – Preparing for the new elementary health and physical education curriculum

In this episode co-host Laura Chesnik provides an overview of the new health and physical education curriculum released on Wednesday August 21 by the Ontario government and what it means for educators, parents and students as they prepare for the new academic year about to get underway. Laura outlines timelines for implementation and the new opt-out provision of the new curriculum. For a full copy of the new curriculum and the template opt-out form you can visit the Ministry of Education’s website here.

Also in this episode is an interview with Hamilton elementary teacher Cindy Gangaram. Cindy was the co-applicant who along with the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario and Ontario Civil Liberties challenged the Ontario government’s refusal to consult teachers when they repealed the 2015 curriculum and the governments establishment of a direct hotline for parents to call to report teachers who they felt were teaching the repealed curriculum. Cindy talks about how the court case affected her students.
