Episode 114: Educators organizing in Manitoba – Part 2

This is part 2 of our interview with educator Chantal Shivanna Ramraj about developments in Manitoba. In this segment we talk about how educators are organizing at a grassroots level, working conditions, the right to strike, the Manitoba government’s program to dismantle public education as well as how educators in Manitoba are addressing Canada’s legacy of residential schools.

Please note, this podcast was recorded on August 18, 2021 prior to the defeat of Bill 64 by Manitobans. Chantal also discusses the work of grassroots educators to bring in a mask mandate. On August 20, 2021 two days after recording Manitoba’s largest school district in Winnipeg announced a full mask mandate for its students and staff.

If you didn’t hear part 1 which focused on the now defeated education reform Bill 64 you can listen here: http://edisaright.ca/episode-111-the-defeat-of-bill-64-in-manitoba-educators-discuss-their-opposition
